Alligator Creek camping area project updates
Camping is coming back to Alligator Creek!
The Queensland Government, through the Department of Environment and Science, is committed to providing opportunities for visitors to reconnect with nature and develop a life-long appreciation of our parks and forests.
At Alligator Creek, in Bowling Green Bay National Park near Townsville, $400,000 in capital funding has been allocated to reinstate a small camping area to complement the recently redeveloped day-use area.
Site preparation works have commenced, and a professional landscape architect has been engaged to design the nature-based camping area. Currently, the project is in the concept design phase and the full program of works is forecast to be completed by mid-2024.
The camping area (shown in the concept drawing pictured on this page) will provide the following:
- 5 camper trailer sites (approx. 8m x 12m) featuring:
- 3 individual camper trailer sites (sites 1, 2 and 4) and
- 2 connected sites for large families or friends wanting to stay together (sites 3.1 and 3.2).
- 3 walk-in tent sites (approx. 4m x 5m) with nearby parking for vehicles.
- 1 People with Disability (PWD) camp site offering a concrete pathway that connects to the existing amenities.
- A vehicle turn-around for the day-use area.
The whole site will be revegetated with appropriate native plants to provide a nature-based camping experience.
