Broadwater day-use area

Enjoy a swim in the creek, a picnic in the shade, a walk in the rainforest or even a ball game in the large, open grassy area.

With its peaceful forests, short walks, swimming holes and birdlife, Broadwater is a great destination for a day trip. Pack a picnic or use one of the free gas barbecues and enjoy lunch under the shelter or in the shade. The large open space makes Broadwater a popular choice for group gatherings and school excursions.

Birdwatchers will enjoy the action—brush turkeys are common visitors along with orange-footed scrubfowl, blue-winged kookaburras and forest kingfishers. Walk off your lunch with an easy stroll on the Rainforest or Creek walks then cool off in waterholes along Broadwater Creek—remember to pack your bathers!

Getting there and getting around

The Broadwater day-use area is in Broadwater, Abergowrie State Forest, 47km north west of Ingham.

  • The day-use area is 16km along an unsealed access road from the entrance to the state forest.
  • Logging trucks use the access roads to Broadwater and the southern end of the Dalrymple Gap track. To reduce the risk of collision, a 3km section of the road between the Dalrymple Gap walking track and Broadwater is one-way (east to west) only. Take care when travelling in this area and obey all signs.
  • To reach Broadwater, Abergowrie from Ingham, travel 27km west along Abergowrie Road via Trebbone,then turn right at Elphinstone Pocket Road and drive a further 4km to the state forest entrance.
  • To reach Broadwater, Abergowrie from the north, turn west off the Bruce Highway onto Hawkins Creek Road, just north of the Herbert River, and drive 26km to the state forest entrance.

Wheelchair access

The shelter shed in the day-use area, along with the boardwalk at the start of the Rainforest walk, and the toilets and showers in the Broadwater camping area, are wheelchair-accessible.

Drinking water

You can collect water from the creek and from the taps provided in the camping area.
