Camping near Riversleigh World Heritage Site, Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park

Riversleigh D Site is the only part of the Riversleigh Australian Fossil Mammal Site open to the public. Stay at the nearby Miyumba camping area.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site. Bookings must be made in advance and permits are not available from the national park.

Park-specific conditions

Campers at Miyumba camping area need to be totally self-sufficient and camp sites are limited. Visitors must remove their own rubbish, as bins are not provided.

Camping area features: small camping area set in open woodland near the banks of the Gregory River. Shade is limited.

Location: 3.5km south of Riversleigh D Site and approximately 55km south-east of Lawn Hill Gorge.

Access: The camping area can be reached by conventional vehicle during May to September, although four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended.

Number of sites: six sites (separate but not numbered).

Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car, campervans, and four-wheel-drive caravans and camper trailers.

Camp site surface: dirt.

Facilities: srinking water (tank can be empty) and a hybrid toilet. Treat all water before drinking.

Open fires: Not allowed—fuel or gas stoves only.

Generators: Not allowed.

Essentials to bring: Drinking water, a fuel or gas stove for cooking and rubbish bags. Read more about things to know before you go.

Bookings: must be made in advance. Book online, over the counter or by phone. Camping permits cannot be obtained from the national park.

Mobile phone coverage: not available at Miyumba camping area or Riversleigh D Site. The Telstra Next G network is available on the Gregory Road, 10 km east of the mine turn-off to the entrance to Lawn Hill Gorge. The network is also available for 10 km along the Riversleigh Road from the Adels Grove/Lawn Hill Gorge intersection. The nearest public phone is at Adels Grove.
