Camping in Riversleigh

Riversleigh D Site is the only part of the Riversleigh Australian Fossil Mammal Site open to the public. Stay at the nearby Miyumba camping area. Remember, caution is required when driving on unsealed roads.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Park-specific conditions

Campers at Miyumba camping area are required to be totally self-sufficient and camp sites are limited.

  • All bookings for camp sites must be made prior to visiting the park, and well in advance during the Queensland School Holidays and peak season (April to October).
  • Visitors must remove their own rubbish, as bins are not provided.
  • Camp fires are not allowed. Use a fuel or gas stove for cooking.
  • Freshwater crocodiles occur in the Gregory River. They can become aggressive if disturbed and may cause injury. Do not approach or interfere with these animals.
