Camping in Mount Barney

All camping areas in Mount Barney National Park can only be reached by foot. Minimal impact camping is encouraged within the park. There are no facilities at camp sites.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed on your tent.

Camping is prohibited on the summit of Mount Maroon (PDF, 38.6KB) and within 600m of the summit to protect the threatened montane heath—penalites apply.

Camping is also prohibited on the East Peak of Mount Barney (PDF, 39.3KB) and within 500m surrounding the peak to protect the fragile natural environment—penalties apply.

Please note: two bush camp sites have been renamed to acknowledge the history of the park. Cronan Creek 9 bush camp site is now Burbank bush camp site, named after a government surveyor, Alfred Harry Burbank. Cronan Creek 10 bush camp site is now Forestry bush camp site, named after a forestry hut that once stood nearby.

Park-specific conditions

To reduce environmental impacts, there are limits on the number of people who may camp at each camp site. These limits may change as a result of ongoing research and monitoring. Camp sites may be closed from time to time to allow for regeneration or during periods of high fire danger. Please check Park alerts for up-to-date information on closures.

Bush campers should expect rugged conditions with no facilities. Please read and follow the guidelines for staying safe and for minimal impact bushwalking.
