Camping in Mount Barney

All camping areas in Mount Barney National Park can only be reached by foot. Minimal impact camping is encouraged within the park. There are no facilities at camp sites.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed on your tent.

Camping is prohibited in Mount Maroon section (PDF, 144.2KB) other than at designated remote bush camp sites to protect the threatened montane heath—penalties apply.

Camping is also prohibited on the East Peak of Mount Barney (PDF, 39.3KB) and within 500m surrounding the peak to protect the fragile natural environment—penalties apply.

Park-specific conditions

To reduce environmental impacts, there are limits on the number of people who may camp at each camp site. These limits may change as a result of ongoing research and monitoring. Camp sites may be closed from time to time to allow for regeneration or during periods of high fire danger. Please check Park alerts for up-to-date information on closures.

Bush campers should expect rugged conditions with no facilities. Please read and follow the guidelines for staying safe and for minimal impact bushwalking.

Routes in Mount Barney National Park range from moderate to very steep. There are no easy walks in Mount Barney National Park.
