This alert applies to the following parks:

Visitors are advised of a wet season closure to sections of the Misty Mountains road and track network from Wednesday 6 March to Thursday 16 May 2024 (dates inclusive). The seasonal closure helps to ensure the safety of visitors during North Queensland’s wet season.

Misty Mountains roads that will be closed during the seasonal closure are:

  • Maalan Road (off Palmerston Highway) and Bora Ground Road (these roads will remain closed to vehicles after 16 May 2024)
  • K-Tree Road*
  • Maple Creek Road.

Camping areas that will be closed during the seasonal closure are:

  • South Johnstone camping area*
  • Carter Creek camping area
  • Downey Creek camping area.

Walking/mountain bike tracks impacted by seasonal closure:

  • Gorrell track – CLOSED
  • Cannabullen Creek track – CLOSED                         

Walking tracks and camp sites open (weather and condition dependant):

  • Cardwell Range track including access to Cannabullen Falls and Majors Mountain
  • Koolmoon Creek track network (except section of track from Walters waterhole camping area to Elizabeth Grant Falls).

*K-Tree Road and access to South Johnstone camping area has sustained damage during Tropical Cyclone Jasper. Continued wet season rain hampers ability to undertake remediation works. Predicting when K-Tree Road and access to South Johnstone camping area will be open is challenging and this park alert will be updated as work progresses.
