Camping along the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk

Small remote camping areas are provided along the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk at Flaxton, Ubajee and Thilba Thalba walkers' camp. Each walkers’ camp has a toilet, one group site area and six separate small camping nodes suitable for one or two small tents. A platform seat is provided beside each camp site.

Camping permits are required and fees apply—advance bookings are essential. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Park-specific conditions

Each walkers’ camp has a toilet. Bins are not provided—all rubbish must be carried out. Open fires are not permitted.

A maximum group size of four people per camp site applies except for the small group camp site area. You can only stay one night at each walkers’ camp.

Flaxton walkers' camp

Walkers’ camp features: Flaxton walkers' camp is set within tall forest with a fern understorey.

Location: Flaxton walkers' camp is 16.1km one-way from the Baroon Pocket entrance point.

Access: The walkers’ camp is only accessible by foot.

Number of sites: There are 12 camp sites within this walkers' camp. The maximum number of people who can stay at each camp site is four.

Camp sites are suitable for: Walk-in camping only.

Camp site surface: Dirt.

Facilities: Toilet. A platform seat is provided at each camp site.

Open fires: Prohibited—fuel or gas stove only.

Generators: Prohibited.

Essentials to bring: Fuel or gas stove, adequate drinking water, insect repellent, washing up basin, ground sheet to place under your tent to prevent wear, warm clothes and wet weather gear. Read more about planning your walk.

Bookings: book online or learn about our camping booking options. Book in advance for all weekends, public holidays and school holidays. Bookings can be made up to 12 months in advance.

Ubajee walkers' camp

Walkers’ camp features: Ubajee walkers' camp is set within blackbutt Eucalyptus pilularis forest and situated at the edge of the Gheerulla Valley. There are magnificent views across the valley from the Ubajee viewpoint, 50m from the walkers’ camp.

Location: Ubajee walkers' camp is 13.1km one-way from Flaxton walkers’ camp.

Access: The walkers’ camp is only accessible by foot.

Number of sites: There are 12 camp sites within this walkers' camp. The maximum number of people who can stay at each camp site is four.

Camp sites are suitable for: Walk-in camping only.

Camp site surface: Dirt.

Facilities: Toilet. A platform seat is provided at each camp site.

Walkers’ camp features: Thilba Thalba walkers' camp is set within magnificent scribbly gum forest with grassy understorey. The Thilba Thalba viewpoint provides spectacular views over the Gheerulla valley.

Location: Thilba Thalba walkers' camp is 13.5km one-way from Ubajee walkers' camp.

Access: The walkers’ camp is only accessible by foot.

Number of sites: There are 10 camp sites within this walkers' camp. The maximum number of people who can stay at each camp site is four.

Camp sites are suitable for: Walk-in camping only.

Camp site surface: Dirt.

Facilities: Toilet. A platform seat is provided at each camp site.
