Camping in Amamoor

There are two camping areas in Amamoor State Forest—Cedar Grove camping area and Amamoor Creek camping area. Both are accessed by unsealed roads that are suitable for conventional vehicles. Grassy camp sites are located in rainforest and open forest settings.

Permits

Camping permits for all camp sites must be booked in advance, online, over-the-counter or by phone. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Specific conditions

Take all your rubbish out of the forest for appropriate disposal and dispose of it appropriately at a waste disposal facility on you route or when you get home. Rubbish bins are not provided in Amamoor State Forest.

Dogs are permitted in Amamoor Creek camping area—conditions apply:

  • Your dog must be on a leash and under control at all times.
  • Always clean up after your dog—collect waste in a secure bag. Pack bags and a suitable storage container so you can take it away and dispose of it responsibly.

Dogs are not permitted in Cedar Grove camping area.

Horses are not permitted in the camping areas or overnight anywhere within Amamoor State Forest.

Generators must not be used in the camping areas. Consider neighbouring campers and wildlife by keeping noise to a minimum. Loud noise and music are not permitted after 10pm.

Bring a fuel stove for cooking. If you want to use the fire rings provided you will need to bring your own clean firewood. It is illegal to collect firewood from the State forest.

Amamoor Creek camping area bookings are managed differently from late July to early September for the Gympie Music Muster (a week-long event that attracts thousands of campers). During this time camping bookings for Amamoor Creek camping area and Gympie Muster camping areas are made through the Gympie Muster website. If you are not attending the Gympie Music Muster, consider camping at Cedar Grove camping area.
