Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking major facility upgrades to communications and visitor facilities at Central Station in the coming months.
As part of these works, a new wastewater treatment system will be installed at the site to cater for the high visitor demands. To limit interruption during installation and reduce the load on the current wastewater treatment system, a temporary restriction for new camping permits will be in place from 15 April to 31 July 2024.
Visitors with existing camping permits will still be able to camp in the Central Station camping area.
The day-use facilities and walking tracks will remain open during this period. Some temporary access restrictions may be required to complete the planned works but will be timed to limit any impacts to campers and day visitors.
We thank you for your support and cooperation during these upgrades.
Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
