Mount Coolum's impressive dome-shape rises 208m above the Sunshine Coast lowlands and provides spectacular 360 degree views of the coast and hinterland. The summit supports montane heath—a plant community, with rare and threatened species, that only grows at two locations on the Sunshine Coast.
From the mountain, the park extends south and west across flat lowlands protecting wallum, paperbark wetlands, open eucalypt forest and rainforest remnants—plant communities that have largely disappeared from this part of the Sunshine Coast.
