Infrastructure upgrade for Forts Junction Hub
The Queensland Government is working with Townsville City Council to upgrade the Forts Junction Hub, the access point for Magnetic Island’s most popular walking trails.
The $2.35 million infrastructure upgrade—expected to start in September 2020 and be completed by early 2021—will enhance community access to the site, provide much-needed amenities, and create an orientation centre for the island’s trail network.
The project will improve traffic flow and vehicle and pedestrian safety around the Forts Junction Hub, provide toilets and drinking water facilities, as well as more parking spaces, and a drop off point.
It will cater for a range of transport options including walking tracks, scooters, bicycles, buses and vehicles.
During construction, the community will be kept informed about traffic disruptions and walking track closures.
