Powell Creek camping area

Powell Creek camping area is situated overlooking Powell Creek, on a stony plateau amongst the low wattles and mulga trees. Enjoy the peace and tranquillity; the area is ideal for bird watching, photography and bush walking.

Features: overlooking Powell Creek, with views along sections of open gorge and smooth rock holes carved and worn from years of flooding. Panoramic views across the plateau at sunset.

Location: the camping area is approximately 7km south-west of the park entrance. Vehicles must not cross Powell Creek.

Maps:

Access: the camping area can be reached by 4WD vehicles and off-road camper trailers (only). It is not accessible for caravans, buses or motorhomes.

Number of sites: open area without separately defined sites.

Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside your 4WD; off-road camper trailers.

Camp site surface: Rock. Driving tent pegs into the hard ground is difficult, so other means of stablilising your structure will be required.

Facilities: none. BYO portable toilet, or be prepared to bury human waste and toilet paper in rocky ground at least 150m away from watercourses.

Open fires: allowed in existing fireplaces only (except when fire bans apply)—bring your own firewood. Fuel stoves are recommended. Use water to extinguish your fire before you leave.

Generator use: prohibited.

Essentials to bring: food and drinking water, sturdy storage containers and rubbish bags, portable toilet, insect repellent, sun protection, first-aid kit, reliable torch. Read more about before you visit.

Bookings: book online or learn about our camping booking options prior to arrival. Campers should plan their visit and obtain an e-permit in advance. Self-registration is not available.

Mobile phone coverage: not available. Use of satellite phones and UHF radios are recommended.
