Camping on Woody Island (Tooliewah), Great Sandy National Park

Woody Island (Tooliewah) lies in the Great Sandy Strait between K'gari (Fraser Island) and Hervey Bay. The island’s open forests and fringing mangroves are home to a variety of birds. Bush camp at Jeffries Beach, a 25min boat ride from the Urangan Boat Harbour, in Hervey Bay.

  • Camping permits are required and fees apply.
  • A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Park-specific conditions

  • Bring fresh water.
  • Never feed or leave food that attracts wildlife.
  • Take all rubbish out of the park.

Prohibited activities

  • Dogs are prohibited on both islands.
  • Open fires are prohibited on both islands.
  • Camping is prohibited on Little Woody Island.

Jeffries Beach

Camping area features: A quiet retreat for self-sufficient campers. Camping nodes are set among casuarina trees and face north to Platypus Bay.

Location: On the south-east side of Woody Island (Tooliewah), approximately 8km east of Urangan, Hervey Bay. Camp in the proximity of the Great Sandy National Park, Woody Island (Tooliewah) section sign, about 3km south-east of the gas shed. The camping area is in line with the tip of Little Woody Island (Walangoora).

Access: Boat only.

Number of sites: Open area without defined sites.

Camp sites are suitable for: Tent camping and boat-based camping.

Camp site surface: Sand or grass.

Facilities: None.

Open fires: Prohibited. Use a fuel stove for cooking.

Generators: Use is permitted from 8am to 7pm (65dB max noise level).

Essentials to bring: Drinking water, gas or fuel stove, rubbish bags, first-aid kit, insect repellent, sunscreen and lockable containers for food and rubbish. Portable toilets are preferred.
