Head back to school at this former station schoolhouse, a treasure trove of fascinating facts and stories about the park.

Drop in to the Mount Moffatt visitor information hut before you head off to explore the walks, camping areas and scenic drives of Mount Moffatt.

Inside this quaint little building, once the station schoolhouse, find out about the park’s rich Aboriginal connections and colourful pastoral history. Read about Australia’s last known bushrangers—the maverick Kenniff brothers—and then follow their footsteps into the high country. Remember to sign the visitors’ book so you can share your experiences with fellow travellers. When you leave you'll have a good idea of where you want to go, and what to look for on the way!

Getting there and getting around

Mount Moffatt visitor information hut is in the Mount Moffatt section of Carnarvon National Park in central Queensland's Sandstone Wilderness, about 220km north of Mitchell.

  • Mount Moffatt Visitor Information Hut is 28km from the southern park entrance, accessed from the Mount Moffatt circuit drive.
  • To reach Mount Moffatt from Mitchell, drive 220km north on an unsealed road via Womblebank Station. If you are travelling from Injune, drive 160km north-west via Womblebank Station or Westgrove Station. High-clearance 4WDs are recommended and are essential to get around the park. There are no roads from Mount Moffatt direct to the other sections of the park.
