Camping
Where can I get a camping permit?
Camping permits can be booked online or learn about our camping booking options.
Camping permits can be purchased in person at Capricorn Coast Visitor Information Centre in Yeppoon during business hours, seven days a week (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day).
Can I bring a camper trailer, caravan or small motorhome?
National Park and Conservation Park
Only off-road camper trailers with high clearance are recommended at Five Rocks camping area and Nine Mile Beach camp sites. Check camping information for access information and camp site details when you book your camping permit.
State Forest
Yes. Upper Stony, Red Rock and Water Park Creek camping areas provide suitable camp sites; however not every camp site is suitable for a trailer, caravan or motorhome. Check camping information for access information and camp site details when you book your camping permit.
Are camp fires permitted?
National Park and Conservation Park
Camp fires are permitted at Nine Mile Beach camping areas and strict conditions apply—read take care with fire. Camp fires are not permitted on the beach or anywhere else in Byfield national or conservation park.
State Forest
Camp fires are permitted at Upper Stony, Water Park Creek and Red Rock camping areas and only in fireplaces provided.
Is firewood and kindling available?
No. You must bring only clean, milled timber for your camp fire. Bringing bush wood from outside the park or state forest can introduce pests and disease. Collecting firewood and kindling is not permitted as it destroys habitat and leaves sites bare.
Where can I get clean, milled timber?
Clean, milled timber can usually be purchased from the Byfield General Store, Farnborough Store, service stations in Yeppoon or from larger retail outlets.
Are bins and recycling facilities provided?
No—they encourage native animals to become pests. Bring rubbish bags and sturdy containers to secure your waste and take all waste home for disposal or recycling.
Can I use a generator?
Generators can be operated between 8am and 7pm, providing they have a sound rating of 65 decibels (2.0Kva) or less.
Can I camp with my pet?
National Park and Conservation Park
No. Pets are not permitted in Byfield national or conservation parks. Dogs are not permitted on any beaches adjacent to Byfield national or conservation parks unless under special permit.
State Forest
Dogs only are permitted at Red Rock camping area and must be on a leash at all times. Pets are not permitted at Upper Stony or Water Park Creek.
