Always check

Set up camp in this well-appointed camping area, just behind the foredunes and a short walk from the Gregory and Burrum rivers. You’ll need a high clearance 4WD to get here, but it’s well worth the drive.

Spend your days exploring the park on foot or by 4WD. Slip your canoe or kayak onto the Burrum River and go in search of sea turtles, dolphins and dugong, or fish and boat in the adjacent Great Sandy Marine Park.

At night, you’ll be lulled asleep by the waves gently crashing on the shore.

Getting there and getting around

Burrum Point camping area is in Burrum Coast National Park, 46km north of Maryborough or 57km south of Bundaberg in the Wide Bay area. The park is spread over four sections—Kinkuna, Woodgate, Burrum River and Buxton sections.

The Burrum Point camping area is in the Woodgate section, which is accessible only by 4WD. All-wheel-drive vehicles, and vehicles towing low-clearance trailers, boats or caravans are not recommended.

  • Remember all vehicles must be registered, drivers must be licensed and all Queensland road rules apply, even on beaches.
  • Read 4WD with care for important information on 4WD safety and minimal impact driving.

From the south to Woodgate section

  • Follow the Bruce Highway north to Childers and turn right onto Goodwood Road.
  • Travel 18km along Goodwood Road then turn right on Woodgate Road and drive a further 19km.
  • At the Woodgate township, turn right onto Acacia Street and drive 3.5km.
  • At the side street turn-off to Twelfth Avenue in Woodgate, drive along Walkers Point Road to the camping area.
  • Alternatively you can turn left at the junction of Twelfth Avenue and Walkers Point Road in Woodgate township to access the beach and drive towards camping area.

From the north to Woodgate section

  • Follow the Isis Highway south from Bundaberg and turn east onto Walker Street.
  • Drive 2.4km then turn right onto Barolin Street towards Goodwood and Burrum Coast.
  • Follow Barolin Street and Goodwood Road for 34km and turn left on Woodgate Road and drive a further 19km.
  • At the Woodgate township, turn right onto Acacia Street and drive 3.5km.
  • At the side street turn-off to Twelfth Avenue in Woodgate, drive along Walkers Point Road to the camping area.
  • Alternatively you can turn left at the junction of Twelfth Avenue and Walkers Point Road in Woodgate township to access the beach and drive towards camping area.

Before you visit

Opening hours

Burrum Point camping area is open 24 hours a day. Check-in to your camp after 2pm and check-out by 11am on the day of departure.

Camping area features: The camping area is behind fragile foredunes, just a short walk to the water and beach. Boating, canoeing and fishing are popular activities on the Burrum River.

Location: At Burrum Point in the Woodgate section.

Access: The camping area can be reached from Childers or Bundaberg by high clearance 4WDs and trailers only. Caravans and buses are not recommended. It is advisable to check road conditions before entering. Wet weather access may be restricted due to local flooding. Driving on sand requires some care to protect both you and the fragile sand environment. Print off the Driving on sand safety guide (PDF, 2.3MB) to take with you when you visit.

Number of sites: 13 numbered sites. Site number is allocated when booking.

Campsites are suitable for: Tent camping beside your car and 4WD camper trailers.

Campsite surfaces: Sand.

Facilities: Water, cold showers and toilets. Please reduce your impact on this ecosystem by not using external showers and soap in the camping area; use the showers provided.

Open fires: Prohibited.

Generators: Not permitted.
