Location: on the western side of Stephens Island.

Access: private boat or sea kayak from Mourilyan Harbour or Kurrimine Beach. Several commercial operators also provide access to the Barnard Islands. See tourism information links.

To protect nesting seabirds, access to Stephens Island (PDF, 124.7KB) is restricted to the sand spit and camping area on the western side of the island from 1 September to 31 March.

Number of sites: two sites (separate but not numbered).

Camp sites are suitable for: small tents. Each campsite holds six people. A maximum of 12 campers are allowed on the island at any one time.

Camp site surface: sand.

Facilities: picnic tables and seats. At each site poles are provided for erecting tarpaulins.

Open fires: not allowed. Fuel stoves only.

Generators: prohibited.

Essentials to bring: tarpaulin, drinking water, rubbish bags, fuel stove, comprehensive first-aid kit, insect repellent and sun protection equipment. Read more about before you visit.
