Partial reopening of Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL) for day-use and for residents within the determination area only.

This alert applies to the following park:

Partial reopening of Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL) for day-use and for residents within the determination area only.

The following camping and day-use areas south of Lakefield ranger base will be open for day-use only from 11.59pm on 15 May 2020. Access and use is only for local residents within the 150km determination area:

Kalpowar Crossing

Mick Fienn Waterhole

Dingo Waterhole

Old Faithful Waterhole

Kennedy Bend

Twelve Mile Lagoon (please note sites 7 and 8 will remain closed for cultural purposes)

Six Mile Waterhole

Old Laura Homestead

Horseshoe Lagoon

Welcome Waterhole

Catfish waterhole

Old Laura Homestead

Travel Restrictions also remain in force under the Commonwealth Biosecurity Act 2015 for designated indigenous community areas like Cape York Peninsula so if you’re planning a trip into these areas check the requirements at Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships.
