Planned burn Bowling Green Bay National Park and Mingella State Forest

Applies 24 April to 29 May 2020

This alert applies to the following park:

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct planned burns within Bowling Green Bay National Park and Humpybong, Pinnacles adjacent to Mingella State Forest during the period 28 April to 26 May 2020, weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests. As a result, smoke may be seen on the southern side of Mt Elliot, section of Bowling Green Bay National Park and on the western side of Mingella State Forest, Humpybong.

The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.  This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.  Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions.  For more information, please call the Townsville office of QPWS on (07) 4796 7773.
