Construction works are currently underway on the southern section of the Wangetti Trail, from Palm Cove to Ellis Beach, including within Macalister Range National Park. As construction works progress, helicopters will be used to deliver materials and equipment into remote and challenging sections of the trail.
These helicopter operations are expected to commence January 2024, and occur Monday to Friday during daylight hours.
Helicopter operations may occur up to four times per day until August 2024, from two lift areas:
- Existing Helicopter Pad at SES Depot Buchan's Point
- Heli-lift Depot at Mowbray.
In order to minimise disruption to surrounding residential areas, the flight path from SES Buchan's Point will be north along the Ellis Beach powerline easement, as far as Ellis Beach.
