This alert applies to the following park:

Beach camping zone 9 (Diray and Carree) is temporarily closed from 25 August 2023 until further notice. This temporary closure is required due to severe erosion and fallen trees caused by large tides and ocean swell resulting in a reduction of accessible camp sites within the zone. Rangers will continue to monitor the conditions and reopen the camping zone when deemed safe.

Day visitors to Sandy Cape are advised to plan ahead by checking tide times and only travel around lowest expected low tides as access is limited by fallen trees and erosion between Sandy Cape and Ngkala Rocks.

Alternate camping areas may be available in Beach camping zone 8 (Marloo, Ocean Lake and Duling).

For visitors with camping bookings over this closure period you can move your current booking or apply for a full refund. To cancel your booking please visit www.qld.gov.au/camping and log into your account. If your booking was made over the phone or over a QPWS or Agent counter, you will be contacted by the Online Booking Services team for your refund options.

QPWS rangers will continue to monitor conditions and will reopen the camping areas when safe.

Please monitor park alerts on the department's website for updated information.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
