This alert applies to the following park:
- K'gari, Great Sandy National ParkFraser Coast
Large high tides combined with large ocean swells have caused significant sand erosion and fallen trees between Ngkala Rocks and Sandy Cape, which have resulted in some sections of beach becoming impassable even at low tide.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution at all times, plan ahead by checking tide times and only travel around the lowest expected low tide, if safe to do so. Drivers should slow down, stop and check access conditions before deciding if it is safe to traverse.
Driving over vegetated dunes is PROHIBITED as it causes damage to the environment, and can impact nesting wildlife such as turtles and shorebirds.
Please monitor park alerts on the department's website for updated information.
Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
