This alert applies to the following park:

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting several planned burns, weather permitting, over the next several weeks, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests.

These burns are being undertaken to help protect life and property in the event of a wildfire.

Smoke may be seen in the vicinity of Cania Road, Cania Gorge Day Use Area, Bigfoot site, West Track Carpark and the  Fern Tree/Giants Chair circuit walk.

Persons with respiratory or other health problems should seek medical advice on mitigating the effects of smoke inhalation.

During the planned burn these areas are closed to public access:

  • Big Foot site
  • Walking track from Cania Gorge Tourist Retreat caravan park to West Track car park
  • Fern Tree/ Giants Chair circuit track

Observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers, and do not enter closed areas.

If further information is required, please contact QPWS Monto office on 07 4167 8162 or 0428 789 316.

Please monitor park alerts on the department's website for updated information.

Facilities will reopen when the event is completed.
