The installation of a vehicle recognition camera at Inskip Point forms part of a network of K’gari (Fraser Island) access cameras to meet recommendations from the Inspector-General Emergency Management K'gari (Fraser Island) Bushfire Review.
Vehicle recognition cameras assist Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) in identifying vehicle numbers and movements in the recreation area, to enhance emergency response management and improve visitor management and planning.
Vehicle recognition cameras are being installed at three barge access points to K’gari, to ensure all vehicles travelling to the island are recorded. The Inskip Point camera is necessary for cross matching data from K’gari’ s Hook Point cameras to accurately identify vehicles accessing K’gari.
There is no change to management at Inskip Peninsula Recreation Area and Vehicle Access Permits are NOT required to access the beach or recreation area at Inskip.
CCTV cameras are also being installed at Inskip Point to protect this infrastructure from vandalism. Operational testing of the system is planned to begin in July.
