The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships (QPWS&P) intends to conduct a planned burn in Mapleton National Park, west of Cooloolabin Dam.
The planned burn is scheduled for the week beginning Monday 13th June 2022, or as soon as weather conditions are favourable and is likely to continue over the coming weeks.
This burn is being undertaken to reduce the volume of forest fuels, help protect life and property in the event of wildfire and to create a mosiac pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.
Residents adjacent to the northern section of Mapleton National Park may observe a helicopter flying low over the forest and isolated columns of smoke on weekdays between the hours of 11 am to 3 pm.
Smoke may be present during burning operations and the night after the burn.
All trails and fire breaks will be closed for the duration and following the burn until an inspection has been carried out.
Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
