This alert applies to the following park:
Smoke from prescribed burn - Waddy Point Campground in the Great Sandy National Park - K'gari (Fraser Island) Section.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct prescribed burn operations with the K'gari (Fraser Island) section of the Great Sandy National Park in the Waddy Point Campground area between 02nd June and 30th June 2022, weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests.
As a result, smoke may be seen in Waddy Point Campground, Orchid Beach township, and beach camping zone 8 (Marloo, Ocean Lake, Duling).
The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.
This will help educe the intensity of any subsequent wildifres and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
Smoke can decrease visibility on roads, so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditons.
For more information, please call the Dundubara QPWS office on 4127 9138.
Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
