Planned burn: Walshs Pyramid and Behana Gorge sections, Wooroonooran National Park
- 24 November to 3 December 2021
- 24 November 2021 11:15am
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct a planned burn within the Walshs Pyramid and Behana Gorge sections of Wooroonooran National Park between Wednesday 24 November and Friday 3 December, weather permitting. This planned burn is part of the QPWS annual hazard reduction and conservation management program.
- The Walshs Pyramid walking track will remain open during this period.
- Smoke may be seen in and around the surrounding area of Gordonvale, Behana Gorge, Goldsborough and Little Mulgrave.
The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas. This planned burn is a 'storm' type burn which incorporates predicted rainfall within coming days. This burn will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
