- Fire closure or access restriction
- 17 June to 31 August 2021
- 17 June 2021 9:37am
This alert applies to the following park:
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting planned burns in the South Stradbroke Island Conservation Park from June to August 2021, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests.
As a result, smoke may be seen in the South Stradbroke, Coomera, North Gold Coast and Southern Bay Island areas. The aim of these burns is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.
The planned burns will help reduce the intensity of wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads, so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions. Visitors and residents should close windows and doors, and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory illness. Smoke can also decrease visibility across the water, so it is important that boaties use caution when travelling around these areas when burns are being undertaken.
Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
In an emergency situation, call 000.
