The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct planned burns within Townsville Town Common Conservation Park during the period 15 July 2020 to 30 August 2020, weather permitting. This is part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests. As a result, smoke may be seen on the Mt Marlow / Pallarenda and Bohle River areas of the Townsville Town Common Conservation Park throughout this period. Track and trails within the Townsville Town Common and the Pallarenda Mountain Bike trail network may be closed within this period,. For your safety, visitors are requested to observe all signage and directions from rangers. The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas. This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration. Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads, so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions.
In an emergency situation, call 000.
