This alert applies to the following park:
- Bribie Island National Park and Recreation AreaBrisbane; Sunshine Coast
In December 2020, a severe weather event with large swells and higher tides caused the ocean to wash over a narrow section of dunes 2km from the northern end of Bribie Island. This is part of a natural process of constant change in the coastal environment.
The wash-over site is currently stable and, with calm sea conditions, the site may naturally regenerate.
The department is monitoring the site in cooperation with Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Marine Safety Queensland.
For your safety and to prevent further erosion, please do not access or interfere with the site. Boat users should avoid landing and setting foot on the wash-over site, especially on the western side which has steep soft edges that may collapse without warning.
