Camping closures

All camping areas in Queensland national parks, state forests and recreation areas are closed from 26 March 2020 until further notice. Check Park Alerts for more information.

Mount Barney National Park partially closed

Applies until 17 April 2020.

This alert applies to the following parks:

Parts of Mount Barney National Park, other than those areas listed below, are closed until further notice.

Open areas are:

  • The Mount Maroon section
  • Yellow Pinch walking track
  • Cronan Creek Falls walking track
  • Upper Portals walking track
  • Golden Stairs (Paddy’s waterfall)
  • The Mount Gillies section*

All campgrounds, walking tracks, summit routes and facilities remain closed.

Mount Barney National Park has been damaged by fire. Heavy rainfall and flooding have now impacted the fire damaged landscape. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers are continuing to assess the extent of the damage, remove hazards and clear fallen and dangerous trees along walking tracks and fire trails. Currently closed areas will remain closed until these hazards have been removed and the walking tracks and fire trails have been cleared.

Public entry is prohibited due to public health and safety issues such as:

  • Flooding induced impacts
  • Hazardous trees, limbs and fallen timber
  • Damaged tracks
  • Unstable soils and rocks.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from Rangers, and do not enter closed areas. Fines apply for non-compliance.

*Please note that the Mount Gillies section of the park has limited public access and no facilities or marked walking tracks.
