This alert applies to the following parks:

Construction of a new 29km walking trail from Whitehaven Beach to Tongue Point via the Whitsunday Craig, will commence in February 2020.

The trail is part of the Whitsunday Islands Investment Package, an intiative to improve tourism and recreation opportunities post ex TC Debbie.

Construction access points are to be established at Tongue, Chance and Torres Herald Bays and work is expected to continue for up to 12 months with progress updates to be provided.

During this time barges, heli-lift activities and heavy plant machinery may be present. Temporary restrictions to access will be enforced to allow the safe transit and storage of materials and equipment and the entire trail will be closed during construction.

Please observe all signs, barriers and directions provided by rangers and construction workers. No unauthorised persons, including commercial tour operators and other permit or agreement holders, are permitted to enter closed areas.
