Camping closures

All camping areas in Queensland national parks, state forests and recreation areas are closed from 26 March 2020 until further notice. Check Park Alerts for more information.

Full and partial campground closures, North West Island from 1 June - 17 October 2020

Applies until 11 June 2020.

This alert applies to the following parks:

Capital works and pest management tasks are planned to commence on North West Island from 1 June - 17 October 2020. The construction works are dedicated to revitalise the North West Island campground to enhance visitor experience and protect significant flora and fauna species. The works will include the replacement of three existing toilet amenity buildings and control of the introduced house mouse. During this time, access to North West Island campground and the North West Island section of Capricornia Cays National Park will be restricted as follows:

A FULL closure of North West Island including campground, walking track and beach will be in force on the following dates to facilitate pest management:

  • 20–24 June 2020
  • 21–24 July 2020
  • 17–21 August 2020
  • 12–16 September 2020
  • 13–17 October 2020

A PARTIAL closure (reduced campground capacity) of North West Island campground will also be in force from 1 June – 16 September 2020 to facilitate construction works.

Alternative campsites are available on Mast Head Island, Lady Musgrave Island and various Keppel Bay Islands.
