Binna Burra section closed due to wildfire

Applies until 20 December 2019.

This alert applies to the following parks:

As a result of damage due to wildfire, the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park is temporarily closed until declared safe.

QPWS rangers are currently working on repairs. Observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers, and do not enter closed areas.

This closure applies to:

  • All walking tracks in Binna Burra section;
  • Border Track east of Wanungara lookout;
  • Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk between Wanungara lookout and Numinbah Valley; and
  • Illinbah and Darlington remote bush camps.

Alternate facilities are available in the Green Mountains (O'Reilly's) section of Lamington National Park.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has also closed Binna Burra Road south of Timbarra Drive to remove hazardous trees and rocks and undertake repairs to the road surface. Work is anticipated to take a couple of months.

All permits for closed areas are suspended for the duration of the closure. Apply for a camping permit refund online at Log into your account and cancel your booking up to two days before your booking commences to receive an automatic refund or alternatively apply for a refund.

Commercial tour operators and other permit or agreement holders are not permitted to enter closed areas.
