Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail seasonal restriction

Applies until 29 February 2020.

This alert applies to the following parks:

As a result of high fire danger conditions experienced over the warmer months, a seasonal restriction on bookings for Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail is implemented yearly from 30 November to 29 February. High fire danger conditions pose an unacceptable risk to the safety of walkers in remote areas and some walking tracks may be closed at short notice. Restrictions on forward bookings are limited to one month in advance only and intended to reduce any impact on visitors if any walking tracks are closed at short notice.

This restriction affects:

  • Cooloola Great Walk
  • Cooloola Wilderness Trail
  • All Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail campsites
  • Cooloola Sandpatch walk.

The following short or day walks in Cooloola Recreation Area will remain open: Carlo Sandblow walk, Double Island Point walk, Poona Lake walk, Freshwater Lake walk and circuit, Boronia walk, Mill Point circuit, Kinaba and Fig Tree Point.

During the seasonal restriction, Rangers will regularly assess the fire danger conditions.

For an updated status of Cooloola Great Walk and Cooloola Wilderness Trail, check the Cooloola conditions report at https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/cooloola/.

For your safety, please do not enter these closed areas and observe all signage and directions from rangers.

Your safety is our concern but your responsibility.
