Temporary fire ban - Byfield

Applies until 16 September 2019.

This alert applies to the following parks:

In accordance with a Total Fire Ban declared for the Livingstone Shire Council area by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) has placed a temporary open fire prohibition within the Byfield area, so the fire rings provided at any campgrounds should not be used during this period. Open fires within the Nine Mile Beach camping zones (Myrtella, Casuarina, Pandanus and Melaleuca) are also prohibited. At this stage, this open fire prohibition is in effect until Sunday 15 September, but may be extended if required by conditions. Visitors should take a gas fuelled barbecue for cooking (or use gas barbecues as provided at certain sites by QPWS) and take sufficient clothing to ensure your warmth overnight.

Visitors to Byfield should also be aware that there is currently active fire on nearby Department of Defence and HQ Plantation estate, so smoke is present in the local area and visitors should remain vigilant during their stay.
