Townsville Town Common Conservation Park planned burn

Applies until 14 September 2019.

This alert may no longer be current. Please check the parks listed below for new or updated advice.

This alert applies to the following parks:

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting planned burns within the Townsville Town Common Conservation Park between Wednesday 4th and Saturday 14th September 2019, weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests. As a result, smoke may be seen over the vicinity of the Common. The burns will be in conjunction with Townsville City Council and Department of Defence. The aim of the burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas. This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
