Tongue Point walking track and facility upgrades

Applies until 30 September 2019.

This alert applies to the following parks:

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service advises that public access to Tongue Point (Hill Inlet) walking tracks will be restricted at times due to construction until 30 September 2019.

Upgrades are part of the Whitsunday Islands Investment Package, an initiative to improve tourism and recreation opportunities post ex Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

Works include:

  • installing stairs and widening the walking track
  • construction of new rest areas at the bay landing site and walking track intersection

During this time barges, heli-lift activities, material storage and heavy plant machinery will be present and temporary closures will be enforced.

  • Access to the Hill Inlet lookouts will remain open at most times (excluding heli-lift activities).
  • Visitors can expect to use temporary detours whilst construction work is underway.

Please observe all signs, barriers and direction provided by rangers and construction works. No unauthorised persons are permitted to enter closed areas.

We thank you for your patience while these facility upgrades occur.
