Wet season opening update: Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL)

This alert applies to the following parks:

After the extended wet season, Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park (CYPAL) has now received favourable weather conditions that have assisted in the reopening of some camping areas earlier than anticipated. Please see below for current information on camping areas.

The following camping areas south of Lakefield ranger base will reopen on Monday 17 June 2019:

  • Kalpowar Crossing (excluding commercial tour operator sites, which will reopen on 24 June as previously advised)
  • Mick Fienn Waterhole
  • Dingo Waterhole
  • Old Faithful Waterhole
  • Kennedy Bend
  • Twelve Mile Lagoon – please note sites 7 and 8 will remain closed for cultural purposes
  • Six Mile Waterhole
  • Old Laura Homestead
  • Horseshoe Lagoon
  • Welcome Waterhole.

The following camping areas north of Lakefield ranger base will reopen Monday 17 June:

  • Hann Crossing
  • Hanush’s Waterhole
  • Melaleuca Waterhole

The following camping areas north of Lakefield ranger base will remain closed until further notice:

  • Midway Waterhole
  • Saltwater Crossing.
  • Sweetwater Lake
  • Annie River
  • Five Mile Creek
  • Seven Mile
  • Bizant River
  • Brown Creek
  • Basin Hole
  • Top Whiphandle Waterhole
  • Bottom Whiphandle Waterhole
  • Orange Plain Waterhole
