FireMapper privacy statement

The Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (department) is using the FireMapper Application, to assist with conducting fire operations, including planned burns and bushfire response, which are part of the departments statutory obligations and responsibilities for the conservation of nature across protected areas and the appropriate management and protection of forest reservations on managed estate. FireMapper is a mobile mapping and situational awareness system that deals primarily in spatial data such as the location of fires, assets, control lines, hydrants, and other operational information describing an incident or activity.

The department’s use of FireMapper may involve the collection of personal information, including names, email addresses, roles, location data, device ID and at time photographs. This personal information will be manually inputted by designated departmental staff with an appropriate level of access and training and will only be stored on the FireMapper App temporarily. All input is logged and monitored. All information collected, used, and disclosed will be limited to that which is necessary to deliver the services of the app, to improve situational awareness, provide technical support, to notify users of system updates, diagnose technical problems, to measure customer satisfaction, for auditing purposes (including in the event of an investigation or coronial enquiry) and the health, safety and welfare of personnel who are involved in such operations as authorised under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 s5, Forestry Act 1959 s33, and the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990 s69. This information may be provided to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) or shared with partner agencies, joint management partners or contractors through a QR code/token of a map or spatial data for the purpose of responding to emergencies.
