Important fish and juvenile prawn habitats.
Extensive mangroves, with Avicennia, Excoecaria, Rhizophora, Ceriops and Aegialitis common; bar zone; island-banks; silty sand; channels; deltaic islands; samphire and clay pan; small coral community; seagrass beds towards Tannum Sands.
Important commercial, recreational and Indigenous fisheries; barramundi, blue salmon, bream, estuary cod, flathead, grey mackerel, grunter, jewfish, king salmon, mangrove jack, queenfish, sea mullet, school mackerel, whiting, banana prawns, endeavour prawns, king prawns, mud crabs.
