Public liability insurance

General information

To obtain a permit for an activity on a QPWS managed area, you may be required to have public liability insurance sufficient to cover any liabilities that may reasonably be expected to arise in using the permit.

To comply with the conditions of your permit, your insurance policy must provide at least the standard public liability cover specified for the activity covered by the permit, in respect of:

  • the death of or injury to any person, or
  • the loss of or damage to any property (including any area controlled by QPWS).

QPWS may check to ensure all permit conditions, including the requirements for public liability insurance, are being complied with. If you do not comply with any of the permit conditions, your permit could be suspended or cancelled and you may be prosecuted. If you wish to clarify any of this information, you should discuss it with an appropriate QPWS officer at the office at which your application is being processed.

Guidelines and policies

Permits conditions will include the public liability insurance declaration and the indemnity, release and discharge.

An authorised representative of your organisation will also be requested to complete a statement confirming that you have read and understand the public liability, indemnity, release and discharge requirements of the QPWS and agree to comply with and be bound by the conditions.

The standard level of public liability cover required is $20,000,000 for any single event.
