Holiday Activities – Gateway Visitor Centres

The Gateway Visitor Centres of David Fleay Wildlife Park and Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre operate a seasonal holiday activities program during Queensland school holidays—four times a year (Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring).

Spring 2019 School Holiday Program

Everyone can have an adventure of the natural kind these school holidays. The Park Rangers at David Fleay Wildlife Park and Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre present their activities program for the Spring school holidays. From Junior Ranger activities, Fossil Finders, Twilight Experience, and Wildlife Discovery Shows—there are activities for all ages!

Junior Ranger Fossil Finders

Do you love dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures? Join a Park Ranger and come face-to-face with a living dinosaur! Find out what’s hiding under the sand as you dig for fossils and finish the morning by making your own fossil to take home.

Wildlife Discovery Show

You can always smile at OUR crocodile! Get up close with animals (some scaly, some soft!) from the Wildlife Centre and learn how our Park Rangers care for our animals and Queensland’s national parks.

Wildlife at Night

Join our Park Rangers in some nocturnal wildlife monitoring and explore the park by night, taking in the sights and sounds of the bush after dark. What wildlife will you discover by torchlight?

Finish the night with star gazing.

Junior Ranger for a Day

Step into the boots of a Wildlife Ranger and learn about caring for native animals. Find out what they eat and give our Park Rangers a hand to feed them. Go behind the scenes and come face-to-face with one of your favourite animals.

Junior Ranger Mangrove Explorers

Join us for a Junior Ranger wildlife experience with a difference. We’ll be exploring the mangroves, pumping yabbies, discovering crabs, fish, sea cucumbers, worms and all sorts of crawlies. We’ll be spotting koalas, lizards, birds, dolphins and stingrays in their natural habitat. It’s wet, it’s muddy, and it’s so much fun!

Twilight Experience

Discover one of the oldest living cultures in the world—The Yugambeh Aboriginal people—as they take you on a journey of storytelling, song and dance. Explore the magic of the wildlife park after dark and be wowed by our wildlife show and Park Rangers. Immerse in the hive of activity in the Nocturnal House with platypus, gliders and bilbies. Wander along the boardwalk and look for the red eyes of the crocodiles and see koalas feeding.
