Holiday Activities – Gateway Visitor Centres

The Gateway Visitor Centres of David Fleay Wildlife Park and Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre operate a seasonal holiday activities program during Queensland school holidays—four times a year (Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring). Check back four weeks prior for current program details.

Winter 2019 School Holiday Program

Everyone can have an adventure of the natural kind these school holidays. The Park Rangers at David Fleay Wildlife Park and Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre present their activities program for the Winter school holidays. From Junior Ranger activities, Wildlife at Night, Twilight Experience and our Fossil Finders special event—there are activities for all ages!

Special Event: Fossil Finders

To mark the 25th Anniversary of the Riversleigh World Heritage Area, join us at Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre to discover the wonders of Australia’s ancient animals. Uncover what’s hiding under the sand as you dig for ancient life and examine genuine fossils from Riversleigh.

Wildlife Discovery Show

You can always smile at OUR crocodile! Get up close with animals (some scaly, some soft!) from the Wildlife Centre and learn how our Park Rangers care for our animals and Queensland’s national parks.

Junior Ranger for a Day

Step into the boots of a Wildlife Ranger and learn about caring for native animals. Find out what they eat and give our Park Rangers a hand to feed them. Go behind the scenes and come face-to-face with one of our favourite animals.

Junior Ranger Mangrove Explorers

Join us for a Junior Ranger wildlife experience with a difference. We’ll be exploring the mangroves, pumping yabbies, discovering crabs, fish, sea cucumbers, worms and all sorts of crawlies. We’ll be spotting koalas, lizards, birds, dolphins and stingrays in their natural habitat. It’s wet, it’s muddy, and it’s so much fun!

Twilight Experience

These school holidays—for one special night only—David Fleay Wildlife Park opens after dark for an awe-inspiring Jellurgal Aboriginal cultural performance, Park Ranger presentation and wildlife spotlight tour.

Discover one of the oldest living cultures in the world together with The Yugambeh Aboriginal dance troupe—as they take you on a mesmerising journey of storytelling, song and dance.

Get up-close with some furry, scaly or feathered friends in the Park Ranger presentation, before exploring the magic of the wildlife park after dark by spotlight to see what Australian animals get up to at night.
